Powering your Home with your EV – Nature’s Generator Power Transfer Kit

Kia EV6ReviewsTechnologyAutomotiveAugust 22, 2022

The ability to power your house using an EV during a power outage is one of the biggest benefits of owning an EV. E-GMP vehicles like my Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Genesis GV60 provide onboard generators, as well as the new Ford F150 Lightning. Typically I see people running extension cords and power strips from their EV through their house to plug in a refrigerator, lamps, space heaters, etc.

By far the best way to power your house using your EV though is to use a Nature’s Generator Power Transfer Kit. These kits allow you to power actual circuits in your electrical panel using your EV just by flipping a transfer switch. It’s very easy to do and much better than running extensions cords to your EV or spending tons of money on a bidirectional charger.

I got the Nature’s Generator Power Transfer Kit Elite which allows me to power 6 circuits in my electrical panel using my Kia EV6 built in onboard 1.9kW V2L generator. They also offer a standard Power Transfer Kit that allows you to power 4 circuits and is a little less expensive and doesn’t require an adapter for the power cord. I’ve determined I can power most of my house in the event of a power outage. My furnace, lights, TVs, refrigerator, etc should be able to be powered fine using my EV during an outage using the Nature’s Generator Power Transfer Kit.

This is an overview video along with installation and test videos. Check them out!
